make check: To avoid long run times, export FAST=y.

A nip and a tuck and the SVM can get through `make check' in 10-15
minutes, instead of MORE THAN 5 HOURS on a Dell Inspiron 1420 (2.2GHz
Core2Duo Centrino with 2GB RAM).
